The Conductor
Pang Kapang
Pang was born in 1965 in Anhui province, China. He entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1985 and in 1987 transferred to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing where he studied with Professor Xu Xin. At the Central Conservatory of Music, Mr. Pang was awarded the “Shen Xingong Scholarship” and also served as conductor of the China Youth Symphony and the Chinese Broadcasting Orchestra. In 1990 he graduated with a certificate of “Outstanding Graduate” and entered the MA program under the director of Professor Zheng Xiaoying.
Pang Kapang is the chief art supervisor and conductor of the Chinese National Broadcasting Orchestra, and the chief art supervisor and conductor of the China Oriental Orchestra. He is also a guest professor at the Wuhan Conservatory of China, and a permanent visiting conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the Pusan State Orchestra of National Music of Republic of Korea. He has served as a guest conductor of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra of Japan, the Hong Kong Small Symphony, and the Mozart Symphony Orchestra of Austria. He is an active member in several professional organizations including the Chinese Musicians Association and the Chinese National Orchestra Association. In1999, Mr. Pang was selected as an “Outstanding Youth” by the Central Administration of Radio, Film and Television of China and the Party Central Committee.
Since 2000, Mr. Pang has conducted the China Broadcasting Traditional Orchestra three times in the Golden Hall of Vienna for the “Chinese National Music Concert Spring Festival for the Year of Dragon”, the “Traditional Chinese Symphonic Music in the New Century,” and the “New Spring Orchestra Concert”. Pang also conducted concerts at the United Nations in Geneva, and various performances in Austria, Germany and Italy.
