An idea becomes a tradition

The success story of the GRAND CHINESE NEW YEAR CONCERT series began in 1998 with an enthusiastically acclaimed concert in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna. Invited by the late Mayor of Vienna, Helmut Zilk, almost 100 musicians impressed the audience with their skills in a sold out concert.

The event was made possible by Zezhou Wu, the founder of the first private and todays biggest concert agency in China. Wu’s vision was to bring together the classical music traditions of East and West and to enrich the cultural exchange between Europe and Asia by bringing the sound of traditional Chinese music to the West.

From this first performance the GRAND CHINESE NEW YEAR CONCERT has become a successful tradition. Each year Wu Promotion (Beijing) brings distinguished orchestras and the premier conductors from China to Europe. The GRAND CHINESE NEW YEAR CONCERT has established its position in the annual calendar of the world’s most renowned concert halls.

With over 100 concerts in more than 30 cities on three continents, the GRAND CHINESE NEW YEAR CONCERT is one of the biggest and most successful orchestra productions of its kind and has welcomed an audience of more than 100,000 enthusiastic listeners.
