Jiang Kemei (Huqin Solist)
Jiang was born in Liaoning province, Northeast China and joined the orchestra in 1998. She entered the Central Music Conservatory in 1984 where she studied Huqin technique under Professor Li Heng. Ms. Jiang has appeared in numerous solo and concerto concerts, including the Cannes Television Festival, the 1998 World Exposition in Portugal, the 1997 CCTV/Toronto Spring Festival and the Macao International Music Festival. Ms. Jiang also won two gold medals at City Music and Television Programming Competition for “Lady Yu Ji”, and “Early Spring” (Chinese MTV films). Ms. Jiang solo albums include “Melodies on the Jinghu”, “Chinese Banhu” an d “Light Music on the Huqin”. She is a member of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, and the Chinese Traditional Orchestra Music Society.
Zhou Dongchao (Suona Solist)
Zhou was born into a musician’s family in 1960 in Northern China’s Hebei Province. He joined the orchestra in 1975, the same year he won a national prize for vocal and instrumental soloists. Solo albums of his performances include “The Golden Suona”, “Great Hits on the Suona,” “Looking into the Vast Plains” and “Form East and West, North and South”. His playing techniques have been featured on China Central Television and China National Radio. In 1995, Mr. Zhou won first prize in both composition and performance with his Suona solo, “Affections for the Loess.” He is a member of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, and the Chinese Traditional Orchestra Music Society.
